No. They're junk. I stopped buying them at the store and started getting
them rebuilt at a local auto electric place. Same day service. Just a Delco
starter, after all.

Your time worth anything to you? Pull the (blankety blank) manifold off.
Replace the gasket when you're done. If the donut needs to be replaced, do
that, too. Same thing with the heat shield. Does it need paint? Does it even
exist? Install one. Get really silly and PAINT the doggone thing farm
implement red. No, it won't work any better, but it sure will look cool.

Some jobs just cost more than others, but if this makes it easy to do, no
sense in wasting time and using up your monthly quota of bad language on a
simple job. I noticed that the starter is harder to reach on my square
travelalls than on my round ones. The 1110 4x4 looks impossible.

In the mean time, install the stupid solenoid. If you remove power from the
starter, the sticking will go away. Yes, there is an extra solenoid in the
system when you do it that way, but so what? It's still easier to deal with
when you change starters, jump start, work on the electric, or replace
battery cables. 13 bucks worth of parts at checker and half an hour's work.
It's silly to keep the main feed to the vehicle in a hard to reach spot.
