[alfa] Re: Street Roll Bar install writeup

i guess that's why they call it a street bar, eh? Anyway, I don't plan on driving this one in a way where a rollover is a potential result, so I'm not too too worried. One thing I discovered in my younger driving is that it is actually quite difficult to flip a car (having spun an Isuzu Trooper AND a Land Rover Discovery on more than one occasion).
The real reason I got the bar was at my mom's insistence, and it does provide more protection than the windshield frame (and stiffens the handling a bit).
The real reason I got the harnesses was because 1. I'm used to them and find them more comfortable than standard inertia reel shoulder belts and 2. they hold me better in the turns than mere lap belts. The dealer said that "in this car any girl will be all over you in 10 seconds". I assumed that he meant on the first turn I went around with those horrible lap belts.

Unless you are really short and your head is below the top of the street bar, you should not be using dual shoulder belts. In the event of a roll over, you do not want to be held bolt upright in the seat. You want to be able to slip out of the shoulder harness and put your head in the passenger seat. With any luck your head might stay there after the first bounce.
Under the Alfa Romeo Owner's Club Competition Code, you are not allowed to autocross with dual shoulder belts unless your roll bar is above the top of your helmet. The AutoPower street bar is not legal at all for Alfa Club time trials and is considered to not exist for autocross.
In my not at all humble opinion, the street bars should not be labeled and sold as a "roll" bar.
