support your local list server...

Bill, et al (that's Diesel-Benz, FSJ and XJ list folks... :)

Bill Harkel of the self proclaimed Alfa Romeo Search and Rescue
Society (you have to check out his web page... look out if this
guy ever drives an FSJ, he'd be an instant convert, but I digress...

Bill has come up with a great idea. A Welty fund to support the server
we all use for these lists! Certain list folks driving certain
brands of British cars suggested sending directly to Richard instead of
going to Bill's fund, thereby saving time, effort and eliminating any
appearance
of anything other than what was obviously intended.

I want to congratulate Bill for coming up with the idea, and Glenn for
remembering that Richard has an address and a business that we can send
to directly, or even patronize!

I've tried to do my part with a web page about his services on my server:
	http://www.wagoneers.com/pages/NeWorks-KrustyMotorsports/
not much, but a token of appreciation...

You can help Richard Welty by supporting his business as a client,
by advertising for him, and of course through a contribution
for the server fund. Glenn identifies some ways we can provide
benefit to Richard without giving him charity... that is by renting
space on his server.

I went through this same process when I was trying to get my server
on line and had many friends on both the XJ and
FSJ list offer to support it. I was fortunate to have extra UNIX systems
laying around and struck a fair deal with my isp to get my server on line...
anyways, y'all can rent some space from Richard instead of me if you're
still interested. From the prices below it sounds very reasonable. :)

Bill, no offense, but I kind of prefer Glenn's idea of sending any money
directly
to Richard. Since I've been to Tampa and know that if you got any money
at all you'd probably prefer to come up to the Pacific Northwest instead of
going to another hot, muggy and bug infested location... :-)

Preface for non Alfa Digest members.
My name is Bill Harkell, a member of the Alfa Digest.
In an attempt to show Richard some appreciation for the digests he
runs, I suggested we start a voluntary fund to donate to Richard, since
he seems to shy from commercial use of the digests for his own gain. It
met with unanimous acceptance.
I am in the process of opening a bank account for the purpose of
centralizing any donations to the "The Welty Fund".
As alternate list subscribers, you are invited to be a part of this
drive. There is no expiration date. As they say, "come back often". As
time permits I will put together some sort of basic info web page re:
the fund. More info is below.
Thank you... For all digesters :o)

Might be best to write checks directly to Richard Welty <snip>
Richard has asked for $ to help fund the Krusty Motorsports server
and digests before with $ being sent directly to him, posting his address.
I also recall he received the money he was looking for and the server
problems were corected at that time. <snip>
In the mean time, I'll send a check off to him at Krusty

I believe Richard will receive mail at:

Well, I guess if you try to do something nice, you are bound to get mud
tossed your way by the uninformed. Those who act are often criticized by
bystanders.

I have made a webpage for info on the Welty Fund.
http://members.tripod.com/alfabill/weltyfund.htm

I am normally quick to take a well intended ribbing, but I am offended
that another person would question my ethics publically without checking
my references with me or others who know me. For those who don't wish to
trust me with their $10, don't.

Assurances? No. you'll have to trust me. A few grand won't get me to
Tahiti... :o) That is all I'll say on the matter in regard for not wasting
any more space.
