Re: [ihc] scout roll bar

Does anyone have a stock Scout II truck bar installed in their rig? If so, can you still fold your back seat forward and up? Or does it get in the way? I'm thinking of purchasing one, and can't decide if I should go stock roll bar, roll cage, or exo-skeleton.

On that note, does anyone have any opinion on how good the scout roll bars are? Will they really help you in a rollover, or should I just build one properly (roll cage, bolted to frame through the floor).
Here's a pic of a stock rollbar.. first installed in the '76 Spirit models.. mounted to the floor..

Yes, it's worth it. Ask David.. who ran track the following weekend, and has expanded his IH collection to include an A series Travelette, a 1210 Wagonmaster, a 1210 pickup, a diesel Traveler, a race Scout, and a few others since that day.

If you put the rollbar in correctly, the back seat will fold and tumble still, though it may be a little tight.

You might need to put a little pressure on the rollbar legs to make sure you get them splayed out as far as you can (against the sides of the body tub).

My first install I just shifted the bar over to the driver's side (to better protect ME, duh), then later realized the seat wouldn't fold. On my second SII install, I pushed the bar apart so it was against the sides of the tub, and the backseat will fold and tumble, though it rubs.
