Re: [ihc] Reverse Polarity (coil "Q")

---Weird, I got two almost* identical post from you on this one Mr.
Hofstetter. The only difference that I noticed on the other was the quoting.
There was an extra line at the top of the page containing one more ">" above
your snippet

---LOL, I appreciate it. Really I do. When I first read this I was going to
say that I was in such a mood that if you were to cuss me and tell me what
an idiot I was, it would have placed me in a better mood.

<snip>
> Are you getting full voltage to the coil or the ballast resistor?

---I haven't checked, but it is my guess that a main problem is again, this
AutoZone starter. I am about to loose my core and just return this thing for
the money, then go to NAPA or International and spend money I don't have.

---I will check on it though. I believe I have the problem solved... again.
Read my next posting. I am just going to blurt it out and hope that what I
replaced was the problem.

<snip>
> Are you maybe dropping the voltage twice, with an internal resistor
> and an external one?

---No Sir. The coil is a high performance coil from AutoZone (their gold
line) and it states to use with an external resistor. No resistors in my
fuse panel and no others installed in the wiring.

<snip>
> How about the contact in the top of the distributor cap? Very common
problem.

---I always make a habit to check that when I get under the cap. All still
looks good there.

<snip>
> How about the contact in the tip of the coil and the ends of the coil
> high tension wire?

---Would you believe that I was humoring myself as I was sanding the
terminals and coating them with dielectric grease. How you ask? I was sayin
stuff like "Goofy old man, telling me to check the ends of the high tension
wires as if I am not smart enough to do that". I wasn't saying it too loud,
don't want the neighbors to think I am heading for early cenility/dimensia.
LOL, seriously though, talk down more if you want, it gives me a new frame
of mind and makes me laugh even harde when I find out, "this may not have
been it, but it sure didn't help matters any". Makes me think of the
wonderful machine we had in HS auto shop. The Sunn Interagator. If you have
ever watched a diagnostic machine in operation, you would understand how
much a difference one little thing such as this can make. Yes, I cleaned the
ends, but as I do sometimes, I fixed/replaced more than one thing before I
started the truck, so I would have no idea what may have helped the most.

<snip>
> How about the coil wire even if it's only a couple of years old?

---With them being Bosch, I wouldn't believe it to be possible, but I was
considering taking them in for a swap anyway. They have a lifetime warantee
on them.

<snip>
> Did you try the plug on only one plug wire? Try it on several.

---I tried it on 3 plugs, though all on the even bank. Before we left for
the library, I even put the timing light on all plug wires (one at a time
<g>) to make certain it wasn't missing. All was good.

<snip>
> I'll probably think of more as the day wears on.

---I've been away most of the day and I am sorry I hadn't responded earlier.
I just wanted to spend quality time with my Scout and come back in a better
mood.

<snip>
> I treasure my IH manual, but I don't use it often enough.

---I try not to use* mine. It gets greasy that way. I seriously think that J
Glancy should make CDs for us manual owners. That way I can print out pages
or wipe the keyboard down when I am done. I already have a few smudged
corners in my manuals.
