thank you, Allan. that's pretty much what we're thinking, too. Ashke is
just about the right age for a first trip to Mickey Mouse World, so he
should have a really good time, we're not so sure about Wntre. gonna give
it a whirl, anyway. should be a happy feely-goodie time for all of us, i
think.

heat shield? <blank look> what heat shield? *none* of my trucks has a
heat shield on the starter, and none of them had one when i got 'em. a heat
shield over the starter sounds like one heck of a good idea to me, so where
do i get these puppies? i'll be needing three. you're right, the starter
under the TravelAll gets *REALLY* hot in a very short time. the starters
under the 800 and the 800A don't seem to get anywhere near as hot as the
TravelAll, but you could broil steaks on the TravelAll starter.

i think there's a powdercoat process that *should* hold up to the heat. a
buddy of mine has a 1971 Chevy Suburban (283, custom Edelbrock intake,
Rochester Quadrajet carb) with a set of headers with some kind of coating on
them, and whatever it is they coated the things with, it seems to be holding
up. ten or twelve years later, they're still coated with whatever that
stuff is. i'll have to ask him what about it.

i haven't done this on the 800 yet, but both my TravelAlls, the B122, and
the 800A already have remote starter buttons with direct-wired battery
cables, as heavy as i can lay hands on. i didn't go the route of the Ford
type solenoid, but that's just sheer preference on my part for the way i
prefer to wire them. the TravelAll already has four of those Ford solenoids
(and four smaller relays) under the hood for various functions, as you may
recall seeing when i was at your place. $7.99 apiece for the "good" Niehoff
relays, and between $4 and $10 depending on dimensions for the extra cable.
so far, getting enough juice to the starters doesn't seem to be my problem
(might have been the problem with the Chevy)... i think it's the heat
that's eating the starters.

now that i know about those heat shields, if i can get me a couple, that
might just solve my problem. i wonder if i can get some of that space-age
insulation mounted on the exhaust-pipe side of the shield for additional
protection?

additionally, T.R.E.jr. mentioned a spacer for the starter on automatics in
IH trucks... mine doesn't have that spacer either. should there be one?
if it should have one, where do i get it? my 1010 didn't have a spacer on
it when i got it, so i had no idea about such a thing. this is only my
second IH auto-equipped truck, i've got a lot to learn yet.

## >> Have fun at Disneyland.

thank you again, Allan.
