fuel sensor

Digesters,

I'm not getting a reading on my fuel gauge.  I checked the wires on the
sensor.  I get a reading if I ground the ohm-meter to the frame, but I
don't get a reading when I ground the meter to the ground wire on the
sensor, like it should.  So now I figure I have to replace that ground
wire or connection on the sensor.  My question is: do I have to drop
the tank to get at the sensor, or is there an access panel underneath
the carpet in the back end?  I will rip out the ugly old shag carpet
glued in the back (and replace it with something easier on the eyes) if
there is a panel.
