The parts of the PCV system that "screw" into the valve cover are the "flame
arrestors".  They are on the side that lets filtered air (from the air
filter on the engine) into the internals of the engine so that the PCV valve
can draw the fumes out into the intake manifold.  It is an "Open" system.
