Yep Chris, that's what I meant.

I could swear my manual said the ammeter was 50 amps at either end of the
scale.  But your point is well taken.  A 50 amp ammeter with a 30 amp
alternator is O.K.  If a 62 amp HD alternator was available, they must have
increased the ammeter capacity as well.  Too bad they don't number the
blooming things so that they mean something.  What temp is my coolant when
the temp gauge is at half scale? Full scale?  Just moving?  Have to look
that up in an owner's manual or service manual to know.  Effective gauges
are calibrated and labled so you can just look and no.
