In my Travelalls, I carry the jack in the tire compartment built into the
rear quarterpanels. In my Scout I've got a hi-lift jack - sometimes, and
the bottlejack stays in the big Rubbermaid "Actionpacker" behind the rear
seat. Actually, that actionpacker thing is going into Travelall #1, and the
1947 footlocker from Travelall #2 is going behind the Scout seat (it's not
as tall, so it allows stuff to sit on top).

Anyhow, the 2x8 is really useful for keeping the jack on stable ground, and
to get a little extra height sometimes. Once I jacked up the travelall on a
flagstone, and the flagstone broke in half. The 2x8 is much safer.
