Can't say as I've never made the mod... just read about other's doing it.
Personally I would try a small elbow and then try test fitting the torque
convertor to the input shaft with a chunk of modeling clay in between.
This will tell you how close the TC comes to the elbow.  I'd allow at least
1/8" clearance.  I'm not sure, but it looks like you'd have plenty of room.

Next time I have my tranny down for any reason, I'm going to do this too.
