I've got no good info on the heater cores, but just a comment on part
numbers. While I don't expect different part numbers between production
and service, I don't find it surprising when there is a difference as
there is a variety of reasons why service numbers may be different than
production.

From Tom's description, I'm not sure that the C93 isn't a part of the
heater housing. As a general rule, a single digit in the
suffix--C1--indicates a single-piece part that can't be disassembled
further, while a 90 suffix--C91--indicates the part number is an assembly
of other pieces. Higher numbers represent minor revisions to the basic
part number since the first release. C93 doesn't seem appropriate for
the core, which is a single piece.

I've also observed the difference in heating ability between a 74 and a
78, although I didn't trace down the reason.
