Timing gears



A friend had this problem with a Ford.. he had a cracked block
replaced.  All of the sudden the thing died, same symptoms,
no rotation of the distributor.

It was a pin that just fell out... which is probably your problem.
Very cheap, but a PIA to get to.  It's unlikely you will need
a new gear... unless it's really worn and that caused the
thing to fall out.

BTW, did I mention that it was the guy's ski-boat that died?
And he was drifting helplessly towards a dam when he
managed to flag somebody down?  Consider that next time
you're stuck by the road.
