Thanks for the offer of the carb-I will let you know if I need it-still
want to try the other suggestions before we go to the trouble of
shipping.  
Oddly enough, when I had my intake manifold off, I noticed that two of
the "soft plugs" on the underside had small rust holes in them.  I
swabbed JBWeld all over them, capped tham with quarters, and swabbed
more JBWeld over the holes, as well as the other two plugs just for
safety sake.  I was hoping this was part of the problem, as I could see
soem kind of lean-rich ratio mix being thrown off and causing this, but
now I don't think that was it.
Thanks for the suggestion, though!  Good to know I'm not the only one
that has these weird things happen!
