seat swaps

The driver's-side seat is showing some wear in my '89 325i (2 door, with
"sports" seats).  I was just wondering if it is even feasable to think
about swapping it with the passenger one! It looks like a big job and
maybe can't be done (realistically) anyway. I guess the whole seat would
need to be dismantled, cables levers and etc etc swapped. 

Is this job as difficult as it looks?

I don't want to resort to seat covers but may have to if this is not
possible.
