Hello Lorenzo,
If you're experiencing a fuel odor, perhaps some of the fittings at the top
of your fuel tank have corroded and sprung a leak. Jenny Morgan wrote about
this issue with E30 cars perhaps a year ago in the Roundel -- the fittings
in question are at the top of the tank, sandwiched between it and the
chassis. Road gunk gets up there, collects moisture and...rust results.
Does the odor intensify after you've filled an empty tank? That's a pretty
good giveaway.
