ASC light going on (and staying on)

Folks:

I own a '96 328ia.
Recently the dash indicator for the ASC system has come on by itself
and stays on while on smooth road.

Last time this happened was about three months ago. Took it into the
dealer for a servicing and was told that brake dust accumulation on
the ASC sensors in the wheels causes this. Does anyone
else have this problem? Planning to wash the wheels this weekend to
see if it goes off afterwards.
