Not sure about the air bag -- my car doesn't have them. I did have the
intermittent wiper problem. I pulled the switch, cleaned up the
grounding points and rinsed the inside of the switch with aerosol
contact cleaner. One of those remedies seemed to do the trick.

I'm sure you'd have to pull the wheel to get at the ground (I did), but
you might be able to direct some contact cleaner spray (use that little
red straw!) into the switch while it's still installed.

I suspect that my problem was a little corrosion inside the switch,
because I could get the wipers to function by working the washer
mechanism.
