I recently contacted my dealer to receive a price quote for a rebuilt
alternator and was given a useful piece of info, previously unknown to me:

BMW now offers a lifetime parts warranty on some items - alternators, water
pumps, shocks, exhausts, and perhaps a few other parts - quite a nice deal,
actually.  Labor is extra, of course, but still not bad.

You may want to run this by your shop the next time you need parts.......
