Hey Tony,

The normal sign for damaged M3 water pumps is a slow coolant leaking out
around the pump's shaft.  

I helped a friend replace his "noisy" water pump - turns out it wasn't
the source for the noise, unfortunately. 

You can check for a noisy pump by removing the fan belt and spinning the
pump by hand (engine off, of course!).
