Re: CA DMV Policy

Gordon, my idea may not be, for lack of a better term, Kosher, but it
should work.

1. Get whatever new plates the wish to assign, to complete the
transaction without further complication.
2. Put in an application for personalized plates with the same license
number as the old plates that you don't want to give up.
3. When you get the new (blue on white) plates that have the same
license number as the old plates, put them up in the garage and put the
old plates (with the same license number) on the car.

The important part of making this work is that the registration tag on the
rear plate must match the registration certificate. You want them to give
you the plates and tags separately, so you can put the new tag on the
old plate. If they give you the plates with the tags already stuck on, then
you'll have to wait a year until you renew to get a new registration tag to
put on the old plate. The expiration month tag must also match the real
expiration month. Sometimes you can get a replacement month tag by
claiming it was stolen or defaced.

OR...

Paint the new plate with the old number in the old colors?

Gotta be a little creative sometimes...
