[alfa] Re: Alfa Mexico
Well, it's possible if you live in a border area, like
southern california, that you could register the car
as a mexican vehicle to a mexican address (not hard to
come by), and drive it here with mexican plates--most
insuurance companies will insure it for the value of
the car. The only trick is that this is in fact
illegal...if your local police seem to notice this
shiny new car that they've never seen before driving
around with mexico plates all the time, they might get
the idea to pull you over...
I guess you could pull the plates off that old rusty
alfetta in the backyard and use those, but you would
still have to pray that you never got caught speeding,
or in an accident, ect...
And you'd have to pay for the car in cash....
Now...if you knew someone who lives in mexico, and
will be moving to the USA in a couple of years, you
could get them to buy one and sell it to you when they
move here, after they import it as personal
property...
one can hope, right?
It certainly does make the mexican baja coast look
more and more tempting as a place to retire, doesn't
it?
Too bad I'm about 30 years away from that :)

enough to hold cars)
