Re: 10:1 compression, etc

I have never had success with A-1. They muffed one job
for me and took advantage of me on another. So I don't
go there any more. Nothing personal. Just an unhappy
customer.

I have been using the 10.4:1 pistons in my '73 Spider
for over a year now. Very happy, although I do get the
occasional ping unless I regularly wring her out.
(What a penance to pay, eh?) Doesn't make for a
perfect commuting car.

Shops in Mountain View: I have had great success with
Eddie at Silicon Performance on San Antonio in Palo Alto
only two miles away from A-1. Not "bargain basement",
but knowledgeable and honest. One of the few in the
business who doesn't "discover" something in my car
every time his mortgage is late.

I recommend him highly.

Subject: 10:1 compression, shop info in Mountain View-CA

I finally decided to bite the bullet and get the
bottom end of my 73 gtv rebuilt to cure the excessive
blowby and oil consumption. I am tempted to go with
the 10:1 compression pistons but the owner of the shop
that will be doing the job warned me that it might
give me trouble with the 91 octane gas that's
available around here. Given that the head was
resurfaced recently, he feels that the compression
ratio might be a little too high. Is that a valid
concern? Do the 10:1 compression pistons make a
noticeable improvement in the engine output to be
worth the risk?

Also, has anyone in the list dealt with A-1 Imports on
El Camino in Mountain View, CA. Any comments
(off-digest please)? They quoted me a very reasonable
(read: low) price for the bottom end rebuild.

Thanks a lot,
