Re[2]: 105 brakes -- complete rebuild

a couple of more comments on this brake rebuilding project:

flaring tool -- i use the Imperial Rol-Aire 37 degree tool which i got
from Aircraft Spruce and Speciality in California. don't know any vendors
on the other side of the planet. hopefully there are some, it's a nice
tool.

bending tool -- for tight clean bends in 3/16" steel tubing, i use the
Sykes-Pickavant tool for 3/16" and 1/4" (i think) tubing, part number
025600. it's english made, in the US i got it from Eastman (you know,
those guys who send you catalogs full of overpriced restoration tools.)

tubing cutter -- most any decent quality tubing cutter will do.

Carroll Smith strongly recommends Bundyweld seamless tubing. i have in the
past used NAPA-Belkamp, with mostly ok results, but i have had some splits
along seams during fabrication (never with a line in service), and am
inclined to think that Smith probably has good reason to push Bundy.

also, i mentioned that some adjustable proportioning valves use pipe
thread. the ones i've seen that did this are usually the budget ones aimed
at dirt trackers. the nicer brands (e.g., Tilton) usually do come plumbed
for -3AN fittings. the Tilton is 5 position with a lever that positively
settles into position, the budget ones often have an uncalibrated knob
which is decidedly unsatisfactory, as it's more range of adjustment than
you really need and hard to find a specific setting when you want it.
