Re: Monza Questions

First of all, Monza, while physically close to Milano is not really convenient to Milano, if you get my drift. I would stay closer to the actual town of Monza if possible, were I you. If you do have to stay outside of Monza, try a country-side albergo (hotel) to the north or north east of the city of Monza. It will be much easier to find 3-4 star accommodations for a cheaper price at a country albergo than it will in-town (which will likely all be booked for the race anyway).

Next, Monza, the race-course, is not that easy to find. It's located near the center of the city in a large park complex. Here in America, a large race-course like that would have it's own access road leading to one or more major thoroughfares and there would be signs everywhere. Monza does not have either. A couple of years ago, I was supposed to have a photo shoot at the Monza track of a new car (the 147) that Alfa was releasing. I had the car, directions to the course and a pass to get in and drive on the course, but I couldn't find it! I suggest you reconnoiter in advance of race day. Of course it could be that all you have to do is follow the traffic, after all, there was no race going on the day I was looking for it. But I've found from experience, that in Italy, following the crowd doesn't necessarily mean that you are going to end up where you think you will, so my advice about checking it out before the race weekend (if possible) still goes.

Good luck, enjoy the race and may Michael win

Subject: Monza Questions

Hi All

I will be going to Puglia in September to present a paper at a conference.
Quite fortuitously... Monza F1 in on the weekend before the conference. It
sure hurts me (grin) but I feel I must take a few days to go see the race.
Seriously .. I would really appreciate hints on accommodation in Milano,
travel to and from Monza, General Admission tickets (is the track visible?),
etc. The recent thread on Milano museums has been great for planning - thanks
JH and others.

I am back after 18 months of absence from the Digest because of education
commitments hence lots of field trips, 2 lots of surgery (tore my knee on
racecar transporter),2 seasons of full-on national series motor racing etc
etc.

Ciao tutti
