re: Braided steel lines

Also, has anyone ever used braided hose for the flexline to the clutch
slave cylinder ? This piece seems to be exposed to a lot of leaking oil.
This would degrade the rubber, wouldn't it ?

Rubber/polymer equivalents will still deteriorate, whether it's in a braided stainless sleeve or not. The purpose of the braided lines as I understand it is to minimize deformation of the hose under the extreme pressure of heavy braking. The clutch line doesn't experience the same sorts of pressures as the braking system, and even if it did, "clutch feel" isn't the same sort of issue that "brake feel" is.
