This is ok and dandy if the screw on top of the grill is not there.  Try
gently to loosen the grill, if it wont come off with *reasonable* force,
then the screw is there.

You might want to find the steel cable from under the dash and try to pull
from the cable itself.  The lever tends to bend easily.  You could try to
bend it back some, to have more pull.
