uh oh-addendum

So I went out to change the oil and came upon a little stumbling block. The 
hood release doesn't. The lever is very hard to pull and has no effect at 
all. I am hoping there is an emergency release somewhere. It looks like a lot 
of dash removal to get at the lever on the inside. Any ideas? Tell me I am 
not the first.
