Bob B. and Dave J. mentioned how hard it is to buy metric
hardware in the USA, and the costs of doubling up on the number
of tools.

Have you tried "Metrinch" brand spanners/sockets?  The one
spanner/socket fits both metric and imperial nuts/bolts. For
example, the 13mm ring spanner also fits 1/2 inch. The reason
is they are a six point which drive the center of the nuts, rather than
the corners. They are very good at removing nuts which have
rounded corners. I do not like their open-ended spanners though.
