Re: 164S Terminal Velocity Redux

Mr. Hertzman wondered if I had used "a wrist-watch" to do
the 164S terminal velocity test. In fact, I used a stop
watch accurate to a hundredth of a second, thus the five
decimal point final indicated speed. Of course the
speedometer in a 1991 164S is not digital, so the indicated
speeds of 80 and 155 mph are based on my view of the gauge
from behind the wheel.

Mr. Smith's (Michael) comments on "tire growth" are very
interesting. It makes me wonder if in fact I was going
faster than may calculations indicated. :-)

In hindsight, I should have had a passenger along to time
the "155 mph" run between mile markers. Now I'll have to do
a rerun! But I have no idea when I'll get the opportunity
to do "155 mph" again...

I guess I should be pleased that a "basically" stock 164S'
top speed could be so close to the Bonneville record set by
the factory with the assistance of such a distinguished and
experienced race car preparer as Mr. Don Black, former
associate of Carlo Chiti.
