Re: High Milage Milano problems

Wholey Crap....thank goodness it wasn't that...I am sorry if that every
happened to you...I fixed it, and should have really looked at the car
BEFORE I sent something into the digest...I got back out there...got in the
car, and paid better attention to the problem. It then didn't feel like a
driveline thing at all, it felt like the engine was misfiring in a major
way. Then I realized that for the past month or more, I have mainly been
driving my car to the train station (5 blocks or so) when I am very late. So
I pulled the plugs, and sure enough, every one of them was completely caked
in crusty oil. I have never seen them so dirty. So I cleaned them off, and
went to get new plugs. Which brings me to a new question.
I want to get a set of plugs one range hotter than the regular ones. I
haven't been able to find anyone that could tell me what that would be
though. Any ideas? Thanks, Ted

Marathon lurking period over, here's something I might know the answer to..
It sounds to me like you've done the differential. This happened to my
Alfetta GTV following a carpark ramp incident. I'm not sure how much they
beefed it up on the Milano or how it would be different being an LSD, but
the symptoms sound exactly the same. Put the car in neutral, jack up the
rear wheels and turn them by hand. Does it feel crunchy? If so you've
probably stripped some teeth off a sun gear. Don't drive it. Circulating
pieces of metal through your transaxle will make for expensive sounds. Hope
this helps.

Ian Salmon.
