RE: club affiliation

for the record, i'm a member of both, and prefer the technical
content of the ara publication. i also enjoy access to chapter
newsletters other than my own, and would willingly pay additional
dues to receive more than just the newsletter from a single
chapter. i've noticed that some forward thinking chapters are
making their newsletters available on-line, or via e-mail, which
for me is preferable to printed copies, and must also be easier
to distribute.

I edit i Saluti, AROC St Louis' local newsletter. I post many of
the more general articles from the newsletter onto our website.
The main reason I do this is:

1) It makes an article easier for me to find in the future
and it's in a useful format that can be printed out.

2) I think it gives additional credit to the authors to
have their articles have worldwide availability. =

3) I like to see useful articles on the website
(i.e., it's an ego thing).

As far as I can figure out, it doesn't really benefit local
members to put the newsletter on the web. It might be different
if I didn't have to do a paper copy, but that's not an option.

My primary responsibility is to our local club and not all of
them have easy access to the internet. As for e-mailing an issue
to them, well I try to use many photos and illustrations and you
lose continuity if you send the text and then 8 attachments that
many can't even read.

Most chapters will sell subscriptions to their newsletters (paper
copies at least for $10 - $20 a year), so if you want to read it,
you can. Another way to get other chapter's newsletters is to edit
a newsletter and join the AROC newsletter exchange. (Not for the
faint of heart.)

so, maybe too late for discussion at this years annual convention,
but maybe a topic for a later date, might be how to distribute
chapter newsletters to more of the national organization.

I'll bring it up at the Newsletter Ed's Meeting at the convention
if we have time, but as I said earlier, I'm hard pressed to think
of how publishing the newsletter on-line benefits our local members.

if they charged say $1 per chapter newsletter per year to get
it in electronic form, i'd pay for a few.

Well I guess we know BS doesn't stand for "Big Spender" :-)
Is that check or charge?
