Re: Removing Spica Pump

There are two ways of doing this, an easy one and a hard one. The hard one
has already been mentioned, that's the version that goes for the four bolts
under the pump. The easier version is below (specific to '73 and '74 gtvs,
but should work with all spica cars). This is from memory:

1. remove air box
2. carefully disconnect the fuel lines from the top of the pump (a tubing
wrench is highly recommended for this)
3. remove the thermostatic actuator (carefully), and plug the hole in the
intake manifold to prevent coolant loss.
4. remove the belt cover
5. disconnect the long link
6. disconnect the fuel supply and return lines from the pump
7. disconnect the wire to the cold start solenoid (the one at the rear of the
pump)
8. unbolt the support bracket at the rear of the pump
*** Now for the easy part ****
9. remove the six nuts that attach the pump to the casting that mates the
pump to the engine block. there are three on the inside and three on the
outside. they are much easier to get to than the four holding the pump to
block casting.
10. lift the pump out, while sliding the belt off.

total elapsed time for a '73-'74 car, 30-45 minutes, assuming no buggered
fasteners.

Also, if you're having trouble getting to the nuts due to interference with
the distributor, you can remove it to get better access.
