Oil pressure

I have just installed a 'new' engine in my 74 Spider. The oil pressure,
which worked fine on the old engine, is acting weird. About 60 psi, then
suddenly 0, tap a bit on the gauge, and whomp again about 60. Sometimes it
just goes down, fiddles a bit, and then goes up. Do I have a bad sensor or
is my gauge goofing up?
