If memory my serves me correctly, I believe that the problems you are having 
might be because you are using the cam to turn the engine. I think I had the 
same results until I used the crank bolt to turn the engine. Now, after many 
thousands of miles of happy motoring all I worry about, in reference to the 
timing belt, is turning the engine backwards.
