What about just dropping an Alfa engine in the ol' Volvo? There's a couple
o'fellers in Mini-soda that kinda did this sort of thing (actually put the
Volvo engine in the Alfa) a year or so ago. They might be able to help out.

Kinda eases you into this Alfa ownership thing that way. :-)
