rear wheel bearing removal

Joe Senesac was asking how to remove the rear wheel bearing from the
axle shaft of a spider and noticed the 'fancy puller' described in the
work shop manual.

Joe, you can take the axle to any machine shop and also many garages
and they will pull it for you and even reinstall the new bearing for
less than $10. The small garage that just did one for me claimed it was
similar to a ford axle and he had a home made jig all set up for the job
that worked perfectly. I had the later spider axle with the pressed on
retainer and it took the guy about 15 mins to remove and replace the
bearing and retainer.
I imagine a machine shop would use a more universal setup and merely
select the proper cutout plates to grip on the correct side of the
bearing for removal and replacement.
