If it's a vacuum leak there is no fuel leakage..it's air leakage. Try
this...with the fuel pump on and the car not running count the number of
clicks per minute. Remember the number. Turn the ignition off, disconnect
the fuel line and block it off (a bolt and clamp should work) turn the
ignition on and count clicks per minute (wait 20 seconds before counting to
allow the pressure to stablize.) If the number of clicks is the same or
close, then the carbs are probably not leaking. If there is no other fuel
leak then it's a vacuum leak. If the number of clicks is significantly
more, the carb floats are suspect.

If the floats are leaking the excess goes into the manifold. This will
cause hard hot starting and rich running. It is hard on the
cylinder walls as well.
