RE: Unleaded



This is correct, the initial rollout of premium unleaded petrol (PULP)
by BP,Mobil and Caltex had toluene (a high percentage if I remember
well).
The "mix" (the chemicals that make up petrol) initially dumped on the
New Zealand public contained an ingredient that was cheap to add to make
the octane rating. The percentage was well over the norm when compared
to other (european) countries. The introduction  of PULP got a high
media profile.

The current PULP now has a "composition" similar to european
petrol.........

I'll see if I can track down the composition of the petrol as
introduced.

ps. there is now an "independent" petrol company in NZ and classic car
enthusiast's are raving on how much better their classic runs on PULP.
Tests have shown that it is 98 octane rather than 96 (NZ Classic Car
Mag)

For my stag none if this is currently a problem as it is a bare shell at
the moment..... soon to be down at the painters (maybe next month)

Toluene may not now be in British Super Unleaded, but it was in New
Zealand
Super unleaded 4/5 years ago according to various reports I have read
I only ever use part JS499A original diaphragm in a Rover Branded box
from
Rover Dealer or similar part from Burlen.
