   Whatever you do, don't replace the engine or you will seriously
devalue your car.
   Years ago, some Stag engines had a tendency to overheat, due
to rushed development by Triumph forming a V8 from a Dolomite
base. The overheating caused the heads to warp with expensive
results. Hence some replaced the engine with Triumph 2500
straight sixes, Ford V6's and Rover V8's. However the vast majority
of surviving cars, looked after properly, give no problems. The
radiator needs to be kept in clean condition, as do the engine 
waterways and the best bet is to use a very strong anti-freeze
solution --mine is about 75% anti-freeze, 25% water and, so far, the
engine has done 140,000 miles with only one head overhaul and
gasket replacement. Mind you the cam chain broke last year with
fairly disasterous results, but that's another story!!!
