RE Firing order, that letter should have said 
number 2 cap post going to number two cylinder, not number one.

The firing order from #2 cap post is 2-7-8-4-5-6-3-1  going anti clockwise
around the cap. (#2 positioned as you described. pointing at coil bolt)
I mention it because it happened once to me after putting on new wires. I had
3 and 5 interchanged by accident. (Both are close and wires same length)
