Re:[2] Front Suspension Question

Alex

I have no idea if this will work on a Stag front end but I have used this
method successfully on other cars.

If you do not have a spring compressor take the wheel off while supporting
the car under the strut so that the weight is still on the front
suspension. Get someone to (carefully) sit on the front guard of the car
thereby compressing the spring and then using strong wire wrap and secure
it around the spring coils from the top to the bottom on at least four
sides of the spring and as close as possible to the ends of the spring.
When the person gets off the guard the spring should remain compressed and
you may be able to remove and disassemble the strut. If you follow this
approach be very careful as if the spring releases or the wire breaks it
can be very dangerous.

Can some one who has actually worked on Stag strut give an opinion as to
whether this method should work. I would not mind knowing for my own
future work.
