Jackshaft Float

There are a lot of dodgy water pumps about with soft gears, you should
re-use a water pump with new bearing, seal etc., if you know the gears are
hard. Failingthis have a metallurgist check out a new water pump for gear
hardness before you fit it.

The chances are that having had gear teeth wear, the teeth on the jackshaft
also will be worn out, if so new jackshafts are available from the Stag
suppliers.

You will also need to check the diametrical celareance (lift) of the
jackshaft in the block, this should not exceed .0025". There is no
dimension quoted for end-float, but if the 'keeper' is worn significantly,
renew it.

Do not forget the bottom water pump bearing in the block, this also could
be badly worn. The new bush is pre-machined but should be soaked in oil
overnight before fitting. Loctite it in if it is a loose fit.

Hope this helps
