Latest wrinkle on the latest Scout project.

Upon startup, 345 V8 mokes out of right and left exhaust.

Normal 345 behavior so far.

After driving short distance, left bank quits smoking, but right bank
continues to smoke even after driving 8 - 10 miles.
Constant smoke? Worse under acceleration? If so, maybe a stuck ring from
sitting so long? Try driving it some more?
Today, an inspection of the [old] valve guide seals found they were brittle.

Then umbrella type valve seals installed, intake & exhaust.

While the valve covers were off, a VW clutch cable got jiggered up & down in the drain drain holes [necessity is the mother of invention]; then compressed air blown thru drain holes. The friend performing the work said that the compressed air flowed easily, and could be heard escaping into the lower areas of the block.

IME, the typical SV-8 holds about a quart in the top end. You might check
this one by comparing the oil level on the dipper after it's had time to
drain back and again immediately after shutoff.

Cleaning the drain back holes is somewhat complicated by the fact that head
bolts run through them :(
Clever design.

I've seen the edges of the holes rounded(Mandera), don't know if the actual
bore was increased. Tom?
Dunno if anything could be done regarding the head bolts blockage.

Oh well, they seem to run well enough as is.
