The IH drainback holes are notorious for holding oil in the upper valve
train area with very slow drainback; plugged or fully opened.  If you find
any pertinent improvement to this, please share.

I was able to ( reduce ) the symtoms by changing from M1 15-50 oil, to M1 10-30. That was in the 1310 with a 392.
Good tip.

If your problem was aggravated by cold weather, I may not need to go to such a low end vicosity oil. Ambient temperature where the Scout will reside doesn't often go below 40 degrees F.
