I'd check for vacuum leaks and also try adjusting the idle screws. I'd take them all the way out, squirt some carb cleaner in the holes and reinstall them. All the way in and then back out about two turns should put you in the neighborhood.

reaction. Try removing the vacuum advance hose from the distributor and
plugging it, and see if the problem goes away. You may get a new problem at
higher rpms (slightly less top end), but that would be my first test.
