Just shorten it. Run a clutch with the 1-1/4"-10 spline hub and a neutral
balanced V-8 flywheel---

I would suggest NOT cutting it shorter until the new pilot bearing diameter
(would be the same size as the old one) has been machined at the spot it
needs to be while the shaft is 'on centers' in the original center holes--
