that's interesting, Richard.  not how they used to run things out where we
were doing our racing (maybe things have changed since then, this was back
in the end of the '80s, early '90s for my last participation).  of course,
CA always has to be different from everybody else, so maybe it's a CA
cultural thing.  when we went out, they always staged cars in the same
bracket.  could be because of the number of racers who turned up, though,
with a *lot* of folks in the same brackets, and usually with the same kinds
of rigs.  a lot of early camaros and firebirds, with similar-era mustangs
(Mach1 and Z28 very popular at that time).  i've never actually seen two
cars not in the same bracket staged together.  sounds kind of interesting to
see.
