Tom, have you tried insulating the firewall / floor? I recently bought some
surplus material from a company here that makes insulated cockpit & engine
covers & such for the airline industry. It's a thin, quilted, reflective
material you can cut with scissors. I haven't installed it yet, but I'm
banking on a drastic improvement in summer cabin temps. Another thought
would be a small dash fan like the truckers use. Maybe it could be mounted
below the dash to get the hot air up and out through your 5 open windows?
Hmmm, does this sound like more work than just fixing the A/C? Anyway,
shorts or no shorts, 140 degree radiant heat is too damned hot. Even with
snow on the ground, I remember last summer well enough to want to do
something about it before it comes 'round again. -John A.
