[ihc] Re: ihc-digest V7 #226

I don't usually participate in these discussions, but I think you need to see the other side. Good for you if you pulled your axles from a rusted beyond repair rig. Unfortunatly it doesn't always work that way. I had a case last year where I had a front axle jacked from UNDERNEATH a truck. It was an 800 parts rig that I had at a buddy's house, went over to see him and noticed something looked odd and took a look. I was pissed more due to the principle than anything because it was a Dana 27... (this was in Rapid City SD where theft of any kind is quite rare, especially something that obvious). Well fast forward a year and a bit, I ran into a group of Jeep guys playing in the snow the other day and joined in for a bit. Afterwards we started talking about our rigs, and one of the guys started bragging on how he and one of his buddies made a visit to the "midnight auto parts" last year to get his Scout front end. I let him continue to dig his own grave deeper until I opened my mouth. I simply asked him for $150 or my axle back, his jaw just about dropped. He started talking BS until I grabed my cell phone from my pocket and offered to call the Sherrif to report his aquisition. Suddenly he became much more negotiable......

In short I commend you for deciding to restore a Scout, however please understand that IH guys have plenty of good reason to be apprehensive about Jeep guys asking pointed questions about Scouts.

Dave

To sum it up, you wonder why Jeep guys don't mind hacking up scouts, etc that could easily be restored just so they can yank the axles? Pompus a$$es like yourself, thats why. But honestly, I think both companoies made some awesome vehicles! It all depends on what you want out of a vehicle. Am I thinking of restoring a scout and drop in a nice 345? Yup. Oh well, thats just my opinion, and you can have yours. I am not gonna tell you how to think, or what you should belive. I do ask that you show common courtesy to a newby to your list though.
For everyone else, sorry for the rant,
Jack
PS - Oh, and by the way, Dodge one ton axles (dana60/Dana70) would be better for my use anyway, not chevy's - esp not that crappy low hanging 14 bolt center section! You should do your homework on spring widths...
